Gertrude & Loom was founded by Melinda McMillan in 2025 with a simple ambition: to create beautifully made clothing for plus-size women without compromising on design, quality or ethics. After more than a year of development, the first collection was launched in 2026.

Frustrated by fast fashion, synthetic fibres, poor grading and the lack of thoughtfully designed clothing for women above a size 16, Melinda partnered with fashion designer Jenine Stibbard to create Gertrude & Loom's first collection.

Drawing on decades of fashion industry experience, technical expertise and creative vision, Jenine has designed for some of Australia's most respected fashion houses, including Lisa Ho, Collette Dinnigan and Stuart Membery. Together, the pair spent more than 12 months developing the first six styles—carefully refining every detail to create timeless garments that fit real plus-size bodies.

From choosing premium natural fibres and partnering with an ethical manufacturer to producing garments in small quantities, we're committed to creating clothing that respects both the people who make it and the women who wear it.
